These are some of the people that have inspired me or that I find particularly interesting
It would be difficult to really sum up Tim Ferriss in a short blurb, or really at all. He’s written three #1 Bestsellers (The Four Hour Workweek, The Four Hour Body and The Four Hour Chef), he’s an entrepreneur and angel investor, and he’s got a strange list of accomplishments including winning at the 1999 USAWKF national Sanshou (Chinese kickboxing) championship and setting a Guinness World Record for tango spins. His blog is awesome and covers a variety of subjects from “lifestyle design”, learning, travel, entrepreneurship, “life hacking” and many others. Sometimes his tone can be a little off-putting but I highly recommend his books and blog. He also did a great Foundation interview with Kevin Rose.
Kevin Rose is an angel investor, champion raccoon fighter and entrepreneur probably most famous for his role as a founder of Digg. He’s also started a fantastic web video interview series called Foundation where he interviews entrepreneurs. I recommend them all but a couple of my favorites are Chris Sacca, Elon Musk and Tim Ferriss (who is also friends with Kevin and they have a video podcast called the Random Show which is very interesting as well)
John Gruber is a tech blogger who focuses mostly on Apple and their products. He also focuses on design and typography and has created a lightweight markup language called Markdown and a great iOS text editing app called Vesper. I find his blog very interesting, nice and brief, and extremely well written and unbiased. He loves Apple and Apple products but gives everything else a fair shake and backs up any derision (generally well deserved) with facts and clear reasoning.
Elon Musk is, according to Wikipedia, “an American business magnate, engineer, and inventor”. He’s started multiple companies including PayPal, Tesla, and SpaceX. He’s particularly fascinating because his ambitions (and so far, successes) are to everyone else, absurd. He does things that no one else would consider and has been successful by sheer perseverance and willpower. For starters, check out his Foundation interview with Kevin Rose.
Scott Adams is best known as the creator of Dilbert but he is also a serial entrepreneur, speaker, and one of my personal favorite bloggers. He’s also recently written a book which I like so much I put it on my books list
Tynan is one of the most absurd and interesting people I’ve ever heard of. A self-described minimalist, he lives in an RV when he’s not traveling the world with only a tiny backpack, and was a former pickup artist. He’s written books and numerous blog posts about all three. He’s also systematically made money playing poker, purchased a private island with some friends, created a blogging platform, and done many other crazy and awesome things. I recommend his books and blog. Thinking “outside the box” is an understatement and he’s never boring and often fascinating.
